PSHE

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11

Intent Statement

At the heart of our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) and Careers curriculum is the belief that every young person is made in the image and likeness of God. We are committed to helping each student grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, and morally so that they may flourish in life and contribute meaningfully to society.

Our programme is underpinned by the Catholic understanding of the dignity of the human person, promoting the development of the whole child and preparing them for life beyond school in accordance with Gospel values and the teachings of Catholic Social Teaching (CST), particularly:

Subject-Specific Vision

“PSHE education helps children and young people to stay healthy, safe and prepared for life – and work – in modern Britain.”
– PSHE Association

PSHE and Careers Education equips our students with the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to lead safe, fulfilling, and successful lives. Through structured learning, students develop emotional literacy, resilience, financial awareness, and employability skills, all within the moral and spiritual context of our Catholic faith.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, our intent is to lay the foundation for personal, social, and spiritual growth. We focus on helping students understand their identity in Christ, build respectful relationships, manage emotions, and grow in self-esteem and resilience. By exploring the wider world and their role within it, students begin to form aspirations for the future and understand how their choices are guided by Gospel values and the dignity of all people.

Key Stage 4

In Key Stage 4, students are supported to make informed and morally responsible decisions about relationships, health, online conduct, and future pathways. We foster independence and deepen ethical reflection rooted in Catholic Social Teaching. Learners develop key employability skills and confidence in navigating the complexities of modern society, preparing them for post-16 life.

Key Stage 5

Key Stage 5 focuses on personal responsibility, leadership, adult relationships, and preparation for life beyond school. Students are challenged to engage in vocational discernment, consider ethical issues in work and society, and critically evaluate their personal goals. The curriculum aims to form articulate, socially conscious young adults who live with purpose and faith.

We equip students with knowledge and life skills to thrive academically, socially, and economically in accordance with Gospel values.

Cross-Curricular Integration
