Parents and Friends Association (PFA)
This year the Parents’ Association (PA) became the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) so that people who know about the Catholic High School and who want to support it but who are not parents can also contribute to the work of the Association. Whilst one of our main aims is to raise funds our very presence at such events or indeed at non - fundraising events demonstrates our support for the students and the staff at the school and we consider this to be important.
PFA Meetings are attended by the Head Teacher or by a Deputy Head which means that we have a regular opportunity to be heard. We meet 4 times a year to organise our fundraising events. Our next meeting will take place on 18th of March at 6.30pm in the school.
The PFA is always free to present to the school any new ideas on fund raising. At present we are involved in the following: Bingo Night, Cheese and Wine Evening, Dance Night, the Carol Service, the Year 7 Mass and the Open Evening. We also have an additional interesting event in the pipeline, which will be revealed in the New Year.
Use of Funds
Since the founding of the Association we have been able to provide the school with things like a minibus, the new lighting and sound system used in the Hall for all sorts of events, PE kits, the Year 11 and Year 13 leavers’ gifts and financial help to pay for transport for residential trips, to name just a few.
Last year we raised more than £1000 which allowed us to pay for drumming classes for some of the students and to buy tennis rackets and nets for the Sports PE Department. Funds for this year will be split between items for the new 6th Form Social Common Room and items for the Lower School; the nature of the Lower School items has not yet been decided upon.
Becoming a Member
If you would like to join the PFA please feel free to come along to one of the Meetings. Alternatively, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get in touch with you. You will be made most welcome and we look forward to hearing new ideas from any new Members. Not all of our Members attend the meetings. Some of them just prefer to focus on helping out at our events.
